Bowlo

Description

This project explores the possibilities of dome blowing with acrylic. Students make a dome and convert it into a useful bowl by designing a method of stabilising it. This could be done by making a structure underneath or by modifying the bowl itself. A laser cutter brings many more possibilities, but is not necessary for success. The process involves heating a sheet of 4mm acrylic up to 190C and then using the dome blower to create a dome. It then needs to be trimmed and some method of stabilisation introduced. This is a good design challenge producing a great final product. This project is not fully resourced with notes, however the video below provides clear guidance on the process and the possibilities.
