The Art Deco Ring project is a complete teaching package designed for teachers of year 9 -12 visual art, or design & technology classes. There is no assumed knowledge or skills. The step by step video clips will enable you to teach yourself how to run this project with your class. The teaching program for this 10 week unit of work is already done for you, not to mention a very extensive set of student information handouts, work sheets, homework units and a class test. The brief is to design a ring in the art deco style. It will be constructed in wax, sent to a foundry for casting and then returned in silver for finishing. To support the teaching of art deco and lost wax casting, there are powerpoint slideshows with notes, as well as a video interview with art deco collector Nicholas Zafir. Our philosophy is to try to provide everything required for teachers to run successful design projects in the High School classroom. Students will take home a silver ring that they may keep for a lifetime or give as a gift, and will have learnt skills and knowledge in design, graphics, art deco, wax modeling, lost wax casting and silver finishing.. And it doesn't cost the earth to set it up at your school.
